EVENTS YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN

There's 2 events coming up in September which some of you who like history and walking may find of interest.

Dr. Maddie Grey has always supported our CTS events so it seems only fair that we should reciprocate and join her and her group on this annual pilgrmage

RUPERRA CASTLE is another Iron Age Hill Fort and is line of sight of Twmbarlwm - this will be a great chance to learn a little more of the local history and to see Twmbarlwm from a different angle.

LAUNCH OF A NEW REAL ALE

Probably the best event CTS has ever held...

Cymdeithas Twmbarlwm Society launches a "Real Ale" in celebration of Gwent’s historic mountain

Cymdeithas Twmbarlwm Society is getting together with Newman’s Brewery of Caerphilly to launch ‘Real Ale’ in celebration of the history and legends of Gwent’s most iconic mountain.

Twmbarlwn Hill fort was built by the Silures, the Iron Age tribe who inhabited the area before the Romans. It was later used as a medieval motte and bailey castle and a beacon to warn of impending danger to king and country.

Folklore says that the Tump is the burial site of a giant with a horde of buried treasure guarded by a swarm of bees - dare to disturb the giant and you will be attacked by the bees. Hence the illustration on the label for this new brew.

This delicious ale, christened Twmbarlwm Brew, has a Beautiful rich brown body, and a sweet spicy, slightly peppery aroma and flavor combined with a light clean citrus fruit aroma. It has an abv of 4.6% and a kick like the mountain ponies that graze on the ridges of nearby Mynydd Maen.

Our society plans to launch Twmbarlwm Brew at the Wheatsheaf Hotel at Llantrisant, Pontyclun, Mid Glamorgan. CF72 8BQ which is the brewery tap for The Celt Experience and Newmans Brewery.

The launch will be on Friday 30th September at 7.30.

We plan to hire a coach to take members and invited guests along. The first barrel of this fine Ale will be free to members and specially invited guests. The proceeds of the second barrel will come to our society and help to secure the future of our historic mountain.

As members you are cordially invited to attend the launch. Please let me know as soon as possible if you will require transport to the Wheatsheaf. Places are limited and demand is expected to be high.

There will be a charge to join us on the bus - cost will be according to numbers - click here to email us your interest and we will keep you informed.

ACTION REPORT

On 19th June three of our members did a field report on the areas of Twmbarlwm that we feel need attention.

This document forms a basis for discussion of the overall aims of this society - the list of proposed actions will inevitably change and evolve over time. We therefore need your reaction to this document and welcome adjustments or new proposals to be included in it - please download it and bring any comments along to the next committee meeting.
